Box status, expiring links & deleting a box

Pause a box, set its link to expire on a date, or delete a box when you're done with it.

When a feedback round wraps up — a survey window closes, an event ends, a project ships — you have three options: pause the box, let its link expire automatically on a date, or delete it entirely.

Pause a box (Active / Inactive)

Every box is either Active ("Collecting responses") or Inactive. Use the status toggle next to the box name — it appears both at the top of the box page and on each box in your dashboard list.

While a box is Inactive, its public link stops working: visitors see a "This box doesn't exist" message instead of the form, and no new submissions come in. Everything already collected stays in your Inbox, and you can switch the box back to Active at any time.

Set an expiring link

If you want the box to close itself on a schedule:

  1. Open your box and click the Settings tab.
  2. In the Security section, switch on Expiring Link.
  3. Pick a date and time under Expires on. A note below the field confirms exactly when the box will be deactivated.
  4. Click Save Changes.

Once the date passes, the box is automatically set to Inactive and no longer accepts submissions. Your collected feedback is untouched. To reopen the box, turn off the expiration (or pick a new future date) and set the status back to Active.

The same Security section also lets you require a password before anyone can open your box — see Password-protect your box.

Delete a box

Deleting is permanent — it removes the box and all of its associated data, including its conversations. There is no undo.

  1. Open your box and click the Settings tab.
  2. Scroll to the Danger Zone and click Delete.
  3. Type the box's name to confirm, then confirm the deletion.

If you only want to stop collecting for a while, pause the box or set an expiration instead — both keep your data. You can also delete a box from the actions menu on your dashboard list.

Which one should you use?

  • Pause — temporary stop, reversible instantly.
  • Expiring link — hands-off close on a known end date.
  • Delete — the box and its data are gone for good. Consider exporting first if you're on a plan with exports — see Export conversations to CSV.
